Frequently Asked Questions

Filtration Technologies

  1. What is Ultrafiltration?
A graded semi-permeable membrane that is used to remove organic contaminants. Not effective at removing salinity.
  2. What is Reverse Osmosis?
Process of purifying water using pressure to force water through a semi-permeable membrane. Effective at removing salinity.
  3. What is an activated carbon filter?
It is a form of carbon that is used to remove contaminants from water by adsorption.
  4. What is brackish water?
Brackish water has more salinity than fresh water but less than seawater
  5. What is PPM?
Parts per Million. It is a measurement for water quality.
  6. What is the range of ppm in sea water?
    32,000 – 45,000 PPM
  7. What is TDS?
Total Dissolved Solids which is dissolved solids, inorganic salts and small amounts of organic matter present in solution in water
  8. What is grey water?
Waste water from baths, sinks and washing machines.

    7,000 lbs. (3,175 kg)

Water Production, Throughput and Performance

  1. What is the capacity?
167 Liters per Minute (44 GPM)
  2. Pump pressure, water temperature and amount of sediments trapped by the carbon and sediment media filters. What is the minimum pressure for back flushing of the pre-filters?
    20 psi
  3. What is the pressure of the product water?
    Less than 20 psi
  4. Is there any pressure metering within the unit?
No, but there is flow monitoring
  5. How does the automatic backflushing cycle start?
This is pre-programmed into the valve heads of the carbon and sediment media filters.

Power Supply

  1. How much power is required to operate the unit?
    5 KW
  2. Is it possible to run the Water Systems with grid power or a generator?
    Yes
  3. What is the advantage of powering a water treatment unit by solar or wind energy?
    OPEX Savings

Containerized Media Filter System

  1. Can the Unit remove Arsenic (As)?
    No
  2. Can the Unit Water Systems remove salt?
    No
  3. Can the Unit Water Systems treat brackish water?
    No
  4. What is the product water quality?
    Potable Water

Raw Water and Product Water Quality

  • Using a combination of Filter Media (Filter Ag) the first filtration stage removes sediment and suspended solids larger that 20 – microns.
  • The second stage of filtration uses granular activated acid washed coconut shell carbon. This grade of carbon is commonly used in beverage manufacturing, dialysis, potable water and many food applications. The carbon stage will remove chlorine, chloramines, TCE, PCE, THM’S, Phenols, pesticides, detergents, taste and odors.
  • The third stage of filtration uses 5 micron cartridge filters to remove any debris larger than 5 micron.
  • The fourth stage is Ultra-Violet (UV) filtration. UV treatment is a recognized treatment designed to inactivate bacteria and virus. Exceeds US Public Health Standard for UV dosage and provides UV dosage of 30 mJ/cm2 @95% UV transmission.
  • The fifth stage is a dosing pump for chlorine injection.
